Genoa (Psyrtshinskaya) tower - this is one of the main attractions of the city of New Athos. It is located on the street Lakoba, near Seaside Park. Genoese tower is the only surviving structure to the present day coastline fortifications of the ancient capital of the principality and Abazgia Abkhazian kingdom Anakopii, commercial and port city that existed here from IV to XVII century. and abandoned by local residents after the capture by the Turks.

Psyrtshinskaya tower was built in the XI - XII Art. and protected the city from the sea. In the XIX century. monks was attached to the construction of two-storey hotel for wealthy pilgrims who came to New Athos Simon the Zealot Orthodox monastery. In 1888 stayed in this hotel the famous Russian writer AP Chekhov, and in 1922 - Russian Soviet writer KG Paustovsky and Russian playwright IE Babel. In Soviet times, the tower is part of one of the buildings of the local sanatorium "Abkhazia".

Low Genoese tower is a surviving fragment of defensive Anakopii XI-XIII Art. Its elevation was performed in a trapezoidal shape and has only two windows. Lined tower roughly shaped limestone. Up to this day very well preserved masonry towers. During the restoration of the walls of buildings have been partially restored from old brick, which was taken from the ruins of buildings destroyed during the civil war of 1992-1993

As a result of restoration work Genoese tower had a completely new roof and interior trim with beautiful wrought-iron chandelier, made in medieval style. Inside the tower is preserved floor, which was laid out centuries ago. During the war years of 1992-1993. the soldiers burned it fires. Soot has been carefully cleaned, the floor surface is sanded and coated with a protective varnish. But despite this, on the floor you can still see the traces left by the fire.
