Museum-Estate NK Roerich in Izvara was opened June 19, 1984. The history of its establishment is closely connected with the return of the eldest son Nicholas Roerich, Yu Roerich Tibetologist and orientalist, Russia. He brought a picture of his father, his books have been published abroad, literary works. Artist's work was enthusiastically received at home.

Interest in the work and life of NK Roerich drew attention to the cultural community Izvara village that housed the estate of parents Roerich, where he grew up and began his career. In admirers Roerich had a desire to preserve the memory of this outstanding artist, creating a memorial museum-estate in Izvara.

In 1974, the year of the centennial of the birth of the artist, began the restoration of the manor house, in Izvara. The project of restoration, carried out under the supervision of the architect AE Eck was supposed to recreate the manor house, and all the estate of the old park. Restoration work was completed in early 1978. In 1990, on the basis of the museum was organized by the cultural and ecological camp "Izvarskie meetings", attended by people aged 14 to 60 years from all over the country, who worked together in the museum-estate, organizing culture days of their republics. Of these people had formed the backbone of the friends and staff of the museum. Their forces since 1993, work began on the restoration of the manor garden.

Of particular importance throughout the history of the museum was the work with children. Children took part in planting trees, archaeological excavations in the estate, took part in the annual festival "Light the heart" in Izvara. Since 2002, the school is organized expedition aimed at studying the monuments of nature and history, children are organized environmental camps.

Roerich Estate Museum is actively cooperating with St. Petersburg SU in the study and inventory of cultural and natural heritage on the territory of Izvara and Volosovsky region; environmental studies; the development of cultural, educational and ecological forms of tourism. The museum collaborates with leading scientists of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. The museum held an exhibition of paintings NK Roerich from private collections and museums of St. Petersburg.
