Oberkapfenberg - an old castle not far from the Austrian city of Kapfenberg (federal province of Styria).
The first written mention of the existence of the castle is, however, called Haffenberg, dated 1173 year. In the second half of the 13th century, the castle was thoroughly rebuilt and became the residence of Count von Stubenberg. The castle also houses the Regional and Supreme Court.
Subsequently, the lock several times changed its owners, but in the middle of the 16th century, once again became the property of Count von Stubenberg and has undergone dramatic changes. Under the guidance of the Italian architect Antonio de Balin Komoze old medieval castle turned into a powerful impregnable fortress, built in the spirit of the Renaissance.
In 1739 Stubenberg moved to Vienna residence. The castle was deserted and eventually turned into ruins. Only in 1953, the heirs of Stubenberg restored castle, turning it into a hotel. However, the hotel lasted only until 1985, after which the castle was again abandoned. In 1992, the castle became the property of the city Oberkapfenberg Kapfenberg. In 1994, after extensive restoration work the castle opened its doors to visitors.
Today the castle Oberkapfenberg is an important historical and architectural monument. Within the walls of the castle on a regular basis various exhibitions (an exhibition of weapons and instruments of torture, the exhibition dedicated to alchemy, etc.) and a variety of cultural events - the show of birds of prey, jousting tournaments and much more.
