Gorgeous scenery, easy access to the wooded mountain valleys, trodden paths, and is well served by a special hut and camp make this area the best trekking regions. The terrain is very steep and suddenly rises from the rolling plains to the highlands, surrounded by near-vertical cliffs of bare rock paintings, many of which reach 1000 m. In height. Peaks Mulanje (including the highest in the country - Sapitva) protrude above the fog that often covers the upper slopes, which made these mountains one of their local names - "The Island in the Sky."
