Natural Monument "Canyon" Great Gate "" is located in the Nenets Autonomous District, an area of ​​212 hectares. It was created to preserve natural complexes within the canyon, outcrops of minerals, rock outcrops, the natural landscape of the river Belaya, paleontological, geological, ichthyology, botanical objects Timan tundra.

The landscape of this natural monument is picturesque coastal cliffs of basalts of Upper Devonian, having a height of 80-90 m. The basalt canyon observed inclusion agates and other minerals.

Of particular importance is the area in paleontological terms. 300-400 mln. Years ago here was located shore of the Devonian sea. His current rainfall seen in the cliffs of the river banks. The sand and shale cliffs of the Upper Devonian has found the remains of shells, teeth armored fishes, variety of corals, trilobites, prints and remains of the Upper plants.

On the territory of the canyon "Great Gate" is the river with lots of white rocky shoals, its width within the Canyon is 25-30 m. It is a spawning ground for salmon and habitat char and grayling.

Rare mountain tundra plants such as Poa gray, Silene subaphylla, crepis blackish, fillodotse blue, gentian Arctic, included in the Red Book of the Nenets Autonomous District.

On the territory of the canyon is allowed as agreed with the Agency for Natural Resources and Environment: conduct environmental actions aimed at the preservation of river landscapes, paleontological, geological, ichthyology, botanical objects, other activities that do not conflict with the objectives of its natural monument protection regime; post-production facilities economic nature monument. Also on the territory of the natural monument is allowed: to conduct scientific research, including environmental monitoring; organize environmental educational activities (educational and sightseeing tours, develop environmental education trails, shoot movies). Sport and recreational fishing in the river and lake waters on the territory of the monument is possible under the legislation on fisheries.
