Orthodox monastery Savina (Savinovskij Monastery) was founded in 1030 by fugitive monks, who have left the territory of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina - Trebinje. It is located in the town of Herceg Novi, a fifteen minute walk from the waterfront Bokatorskoy.
Savinovskij Monastery is one of the oldest Serbian monasteries. It is surrounded by beautiful deciduous-coniferous forest (Dubrava Savinov), divided into footpath. Also, in the vast area of the monastery you can see the orange trees and banana trees.
The monastery complex consists of the Little Church of the Assumption, the Great Church of the Assumption, the church of St. Sava, the two cemeteries, and privately body. Also here is the Russian primer, thanks to which in the 1820s studied the monk ruler of Montenegro - Metropolitan and poet Peter IIPetrovich Njegos, a representative of the legendary Montenegrin dynasty.
The monastery is famous for its sacristy that are stored a large icon of St. Nicholas of the XVIII century, the cross of the XIII century Saint Sava and many other items from the monasteries Tvrdoš (Herzegovina) and Mileshevo (Serbia).
