Church of San Pablo is located in Cordoba close to the Cathedral, opposite the church of Rome. Once upon a time this place was located the Roman circus, then built a palace here Arab Almohad dynasty, and in the 13th century here was built the monastery of St. Paul, which is part of the old church. The land for the construction of the monastery was donated to the Dominican monks King Ferdinand III in 1241, and the construction of the church began in the 15th century.
During the French invasion in 1810, the monastery buildings were turned into a military barracks, and only the church retained its true purpose. In 1848 the dilapidated monastery premises were ordered to carry, quickly left the church fell into disrepair. In the early 20th century, it was an attempt of restoration, and after a while its building was given to monks Claretians.
The exterior of the church trace elements and techniques of several architectural styles - Mudejar, Gothic, Mannerist and Baroque. The interior of the church is divided into three naves. In the church of San Pablo kept the sculpture of the Sorrowful Mother of God, created in 1627 by sculptor Juan de Mesa.
