Church of the Holy Panteleyona located near the Cologne Cathedral and is one of the major basilicas of the city under the jurisdiction of a special fund to support the Romanesque churches. Historians claim that the first written mention of the basilica dates from the year 866, and in 995, the Benedictine monastery are based thanks to the efforts of Archbishop Bruno.

Church of the Holy Panteleyona is one of the oldest religious buildings in town, the first relics placed inside, were brought in during the reign of the Carolingian dynasty. Until now, preserved some fragments of statues and sculptures, which were created in the X century. The entire western part of the temple, along with the lobby reached our days in its original form.

Originally, this temple was knitting nave church, but in 1160 it was rebuilt into a three-nave basilica. After its significant expansion and the construction of fortifications was the Cologne church in the city. Since the first half of the XVII century in the architectural style of the building introduces an element of the baroque of similar items hitherto preserved decoration of the choir and organ backdrop.

In 1757, the Church of St. Panteleyona came in disrepair, for this reason it was decided to demolish the towers on each side and build more, but smaller in size and height. Subsequently, basil was used as stables and the Garrison Church. During the military operations of the XX century the temple was badly damaged by bombings, but as a result of the restoration and rehabilitation works regained his initial appearance in the Romanesque style, although with some Baroque elements.
