Museum of Francisco Tavares Proença Jr. is a former bishop's palace. The museum is named after its founder, Francisco Tavares Proença Jr., a distinguished archaeologist.

The original building of the episcopal palace was built in 1596-1598, respectively, and is made in the Gothic style. The palace was built by the order of Nuno de Noronha, Bishop of Guarda, on the pediment of the portal is the inscription about this. Later, in the XVIII century it was carried out restoration work, and also acquired the baroque palace. Apart from the second residence of the bishopric Guarda, in the years 1771-1831 the palace served as the administrative center of the episcopate of Castelo Branco. In 1910, Francisco Tavares Proença Junior gave his collection to the museum, and the museum was opened in 1971 and named in his honor.

The museum collection is quite extensive, has more than 5000 exhibits, which include archaeological finds, furniture, coins, tapestries and sculptures. The tour program includes visits to educational workshops, where visitors to the museum can learn the entire process of making curtains, from the production and processing of flax and finishing embroidery. Also among the exhibits are the vestments of priests.
