Estoril, which is the sunniest city in Europe, known as a city where there are many churches, interesting from an architectural point of view. Church of Santo António, perhaps, is the most visited place of the resort, except for the famous casino.

Church of Santo António (St. Anthony of Padua) was built at the beginning of the XVI century by the monks of the Order of St. Francis. The temple stands on the spot where earlier there was a wooden chapel in 1527, built in honor of the Catholic saint San Rohu (Saint Roch of Montpellier). After the land was granted to the monks of the Order of St. Francis, which built the parish church on the site of the chapel.

In 1755, during the Lisbon earthquake, the church was partially destroyed. Restoration of the church was begun in 1756 and completed in 1758. It was restored facade and the altar. One of the windows of the facade was decorated with a statue of St. Anthony of Padua. Another disaster for the church there was a fire in 1927, after which the church also recovered.

Draws attention to the facade of a church in the Baroque style, was not injured during the earthquake and fire. Also remained intact panels of tiles, which decorate the side walls inside the church. On the panels depict scenes from the life of St. Anthony.

The church of Santo Antonio is the parish church of Estoril. A large church building stands on the main street, Avenida Marginal, with stunning views over the bay of Cascais.
