Quinta da Regaleira Palace is located in the old town of Sintra and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This palace has seen many owners. In 1892, the owners were barons Regaleira, a family of wealthy merchants from Porto. A year later, the land was bought by Carvalho Monteiro. Monteiro wanted to build a palace, which for its architectural details would be shown his interests and outlook. With the help of Italian architect Luigi Manini, he managed to realize our plans. On 4 hectares was built complex, consisting of unusual buildings, which are believed to have been hidden symbols of alchemy, Masonry, the Knights Templar and Rosicrucian societies. The architecture of the complex mixed Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance Manueline. Construction of this masterpiece began in 1904 and was virtually completed in 1910. The palace has twice changed its owners. In 1997 the municipality bought the Palace of Sintra, and a year after the restoration work, the palace was opened to the public and tours.
