Museum of the poet Constantine Cavafy, the world-famous "the heir of the great Homer," was opened in the city of Alexandria in 1992. The exposition is dedicated to the life and works of the great Greek poet and placed in a house where Cavafy lived for 25 years. The museum is located near the station Misr. The building itself more than a century.

Future outstanding poet of the 20th century was born in 1863 in the family secured a Greek merchant from Constantinople (now - Istanbul). After his father's death the family Cavafy lived 7 years in England. Then he returned to Constantinople. Cavafy Constantinople after himself lived for a time in France, then in England, and in 1875 finally moved to Alexandria, where, before the age of 70 years died. The house where he lived Cavafy a furnished where the poet used, there is a small collection of paintings, rare editions of his poetry books in your home library, gifts, antiques, lots of photos, icons, donated to the museum by the Greek Church. Researchers and admirers of Cavafy was written over three thousand articles and books. Translations of his poetic heritage engaged in such well-known writers: E. Forster, TS Eliot. They were carried away U.Oden, Ch.Milosh, Brodsky. In the Russian language poems Cavafy translated Yu.Morits, E.Smagina, A.Velichansky, G.Shmakov.

For his passion for Hellenic art and poetry of his homosexual cycle is compared with a homer, and some - with Shakespeare. Marble bust of the writer, made in the Greek style, embodies his unique creativity.
