It is divided into five parts, the most popular of them is the block 1 (14101 ha), which is open to tourists, it is also called the Western Yaloy. This unit was originally a sanctuary for hunters, but was transferred to the preservation in 1938.

In the western Yala is one of the largest populations of leopards (more than 35 leopards). She is known worldwide as one of the best places to watch these graceful big cats. The best time to observe the leopard is the period from February to June or July, when the water level is low in the park. Elephants are also a popular tourist destination (after them as best seen from February to July), and if you're lucky, you can also see the shaggy sloth or jackals. Indian sambar, spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles, buffaloes, mongoose, monkeys - there are hundreds of them.

About 150 species of birds recorded in Yala, many of which fly to escape the northern winter. Among them: the white-winged black terns, sandpipers and pintail, wild chicken, hornbills, orioles, and peacocks.

Despite the large number of wildlife, forests can complicate the process of observation of the animals. In this case, to the aid of a small grassy glades and many water bodies around which usually accumulates a lot of wildlife inhabitants. The best time to visit the park is the end of the dry season (March-April).
