Semmering Railway - the world's first railway line, located in the mountains. It located in Austria and runs between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag through a mountain pass Semmering is a very difficult terrain and the considerable altitude difference. Until now operational and is managed by the Austrian Federal Railways.
Semmering Railway was built from 1848 to 1854. In the construction were employed about 20 thousand people. Mountain railway project was created by architect Karl Gega. The railway runs at an altitude of 985 meters above sea level, and therefore the structure has 14 tunnels and 16 viaducts (several two-storey), over 100 curved stone bridges and 11 railway.
