Yakutsk State Academic Russian Drama Theater named after Pushkin is the first and, respectively, the oldest theater in the country.

In 1920, on the basis of a local circle of admirers of theater and music in the house steward opened Russian theater in the city of Yakutsk. He became the first professional theater in Yakutia. The history of the theater started with the play "The Lower Depths" by Maxim Gorky product. Theatre sufficiently developed rapidly and soon on the stage was put about 10 performances prime minister.

Russian theater did not stop their work even in the most difficult years for the country (the revolution, repression, war). It staged performances that makes people believe in the victory over fascism. In the war period especially popular performances: "Front" Korniychuk, "Wait for Me" and "The Russian people," Simon, "the officer the Navy" Crohn's "Invasion" Leonov, "A long time ago," Gladkov and so on. In 50th - 60th. in dramatic theater started to work such as the People's Artist of the RSFSR VD Antonov and Mr. A. Konstantinov.

The theater received numerous awards for his achievements. In 1980 he was awarded the Order "Badge of Honor", and in 1998 became academic. In 1992, on the basis of the Yakut republican Russian theater in the capital opened a branch of the Yakut school studio name Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Art Theater named after Chekhov. In 1999 the theater was named after the famous Russian poet, playwright and novelist AS Pushkin. At the same theater in the park installed a bronze bust that was made by the sculptor G. Orekhov.

State Academic Russian Drama Theatre named after AS Pushkin takes an active part not only in the life of the city, but the whole of the Republic.
