Khomus (harp) - is the world's oldest musical instrument reed. In the Yakut shamans harp it was considered a ritual instrument, which unites people of all faiths and races.

The grand opening of the museum took place in November 1990. The main initiator of the foundation of the museum in Yakutsk made famous khomusist improviser, Ph.D. I. Alekseev. The basis for the museum exhibition served as a unique collection of trumps different peoples of the world, which has been collected and donated to the museum I. Alekseyev.
