Viareggio Carnival held annually since 1873 - that year the wealthy residents of the city for the first time decided to make a colorful parade with flowers and festivities. A few residents of Viareggio in protest against high taxes have decided that day to go to the streets in masks. The first winner of the parade in 1883, became the platform "and Quattro Mori" - "Four Moor", which is an exact reproduction of the statue of the same name in Livorno. "Face" is a carnival clown Burlamacco, created in 1931 by the artist Uberto Bonetti - its shape throughout the year can be seen on the city promenade Lungomare.
