Votive Church (Church of Pledge) - Roman Catholic church located in the center of Vienna on the Ringstrasse near the university. He is one of the most important neo-Gothic religious architectural sites in the world. Votive height is 99 meters.

The decision to build the church was made after February 18, 1853 a journeyman attacked the Emperor Franz Joseph I with the knife. Knife stuck in a button, so that the emperor was still alive. Brother Emperor urged people to collect donations to build a church in Vienna in gratitude for the miraculous rescue of the emperor. We know that the donations made by about 300,000 people. By April 1854 all donations were collected, and then announced a competition among architects. Preference is given to projects of Henry Ferstelya. The first stone was laid by the Emperor Franz Joseph April 24, 1856 in the presence of many people, clergy, bishops and archbishops. Construction of the church dragged on for 20 years. Interior decoration continued for another 3 years. So, April 24, 1879 the grand opening of the Votive Church.

By order of the emperor in the church housed the soldiers who came to the capital after the 1848 revolution. Votive was one of the first buildings on the Ringstrasse and is located on the square Maksimilianplats.

Votive Church was built in the Gothic style. This is evidenced by the turret and spire of the transept facade, pillars and window-rose. The church consists of a main and side aisles, which is twice lower than the main.

Votive Church was built of white sandstone, so it needs frequent repairs. Large-scale restoration was done after World War II.
