Leopold Museum, located in the Museum Quarter in Vienna, is home to one of the largest collections of modern Austrian art, featuring artists such as Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka. The museum contains the world's largest collection of works by Egon Schiele.

The museum was established on the basis of a private collection, which was collected by Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold. Rudolf Leopold, an occupational therapist, began collecting art in 1950. He was interested in the works of artists who have appeared at the time, but already zavevat glory on the art market.

The Government of Austria in 1994, has acquired 5,000 works of Rudolf Leopold for 2.2 billion shillings (160 million. Euros) for the creation of a museum named after Leopold. The Foundation pursued exclusively charitable purposes. Leopold himself was appointed director of the museum to life.

Construction of the museum began in 1999 in front of the National Art Gallery in the center of the capital. The museum was designed by architects from the office Ortner & Ortner. The building is in a rectangular shape, has an area of ​​12,600 square meters. The museum is a wide staircase (shirina10 meters). Inside the building, all the floors are made of oak parquet.
