Folklore Museum was founded in 1895. After its opening, the museum was located in the building of the stock exchange, and in 1917 opened in the Summer Palace of Schönbrunn. The museum exhibits a rich collection of folk cultural heritage of Austria and neighboring countries. The main part of the collection covers the period from the 17th to the 19th century, showing the daily life, folk architecture, household needs and concerns.

Exhibits and archival photographs show different types of houses, farms, interiors, furniture, utensils and other objects of the usual life of the time. In addition to the interior in the museum you can see everyday and holiday costumes, jewelry and wedding attributes. Some of the exhibits devoted to folk art existed before the Austro-Hungarian Empire, including musical instruments and objects of worship. Separately, visitors can familiarize themselves with the rural culture of the alpine region.

Folk Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art is of interest to all those wishing to explore the history of Austrian folk culture.
