Varna Planetarium is located in the central part of the city park.

In 1960, at the beginning of the era of space travel in g .  Varna was established club of astronomy and astronautics .  Two years later, following the results of the city XIII Congress of the International Federation of Aviation and Astronautics, put forward an initiative to build in Varna the first astronomical observatory .  In 1963 .  at the disposal of the old club's offer summer theater, located in the heart of Seaside Park .  It hosts courses on astronomy, raketomodelirovaniyu .  A year later, the city administration decides to demolish the theater building, to be built on this site observatory .  The author of the project was architect Kamen Goranov .  However, during the construction of changing plans, and in 1966 .  The main structure is attached to the Planetarium .  Opened in May 1968, the astronomical complex, named after the great scientist Nicolaus Copernicus, was the first in Bulgaria .  There are arranged an observatory, a planetarium and a Foucault pendulum .  Employees involved in the supervision of complex artificial satellites .  The center also offers courses on astronomy, which everyone can enjoy .

Planetarium in Varna - the first in the whole country. At the entrance is a monument to Copernicus of the two Bulgarian sculptors - Atanasov P. and L. Dalchev. The diameter of the planetarium dome is 10, 5 meters. Inside the equipment brought from Germany. Using various projectors on the dome appears about 5,500 stars, planets and their motions in their orbits, the whole solar system, and others. The Planetarium is popular - since the opening it was visited by at least 800 000 people.

The tower at the planetarium you can see the Foucault pendulum - the only such facility in the Balkans. In a small room, located under the tower, visitors can watch the pendulum swinging. The load in the form of a disk suspended on a long (17, 6 meters) rope; the vibration amplitude at the bottom is almost 2 meters. Foucault's Pendulum - the invention, which allows to demonstrate that the Earth revolves around its own axis.

Due to the reconstruction of the complex was closed from 1998 to 2002. Due to the design of architect G. Savakova and work of many professionals, the updated look of the observatory acquired modern sounding.
