Russia's first Museum of the World Ocean is located on the waterfront of Peter the Great in Kaliningrad. A unique museum of its kind, formed in April 1990, today has fixed assets of 55 thousand units, and covers an area of ​​more than ten thousand square meters.

The exposition of the Museum of the World Ocean is dedicated to the geology and hydrology of the oceans, marine flora and fauna, navigation, and has a valid environmental station and scientific library .  In addition to the main building of the museum exposition is located in the courts, "Cosmonaut Viktor boys", "Hero" (has carried out 65 scientific expeditions in the oceans), submarine B-413, moored at the pier of the museum .  Branches of the museum housed in the old buildings of the port warehouse Fridrihsburskih gate, building of the Belgian consulate and the Royal Gate .  The most popular exhibits of the museum are: sperm whale skeleton of fifteen, found in the coastal zone of the Baltic Spit and is part of the exhibition "The World Ocean .  Touching "archaeological find" The ship of the 19th century, "submersibles" Paysis-7 "and" Thetis "boat 1950" Folksbot "boat barque" Kruzenshtern "hydrographic boat, etc. . Interesting collection of shells and corals are presented in the great hall of the museum. Also in the museum are kept personal items and materials related to the activities of researchers and scientists - such as: VG Court, MV Klenow, PP Shirshov, PL Bezrukov, VP Zenkovich and many others. Among the most valuable exhibits are the archives of scientists and oceanographers Soviet cosmonauts (including A.A.Leonova).

The museum is the first and oldest surviving railroad drawbridge in Kaliningrad, combining in 1865 Forshtadt areas and Laak in Königsberg over the river Pregel. Today, the bridge is a historic property of the Kaliningrad railway.
