Oncol Park - a forest reserve, created in 1989. It is located 32 kilometers north-west of the city of Valdivia, in the De Los Rios of Chile. It is a place of great beauty, located between the Pacific Ocean and the Río Cruces nature reserve, just 5 km from the coast.

The park with an area of ​​754 hectares, the most part, located on the hill of the same name. Hill Oncol - it is the highest point (715 m above sea level) in the Cordillera de la Costa in the province of Valdivia, which is of great importance, as the high places of the Cordillera de la Costa were not affected by glaciation and woods stayed here intact when the Central Valley and the Andes mountains were covered with ice.

A feature of the park is its lush Oncol Valdivia forest preserved in its original form - the tropical rainforest in the temperate climate zone. This forest can still be seen in New Zealand, but there are none in the Northern Hemisphere.

The forest grows a wide variety of evergreen cypress, 28 species of ferns and mosses, 7 species of orchids, cinnamon and Podocarpus and fauna can be seen from Darwin frog, the black woodpecker and a variety of endemic amphibians.

On the south side of the hill is a reserve Oncol Carlos Anvandter (Anwandter).

The park has areas for camping and picnics. In addition, equipped with four observation sites in the tops of the trees, two of which are on the path of the route with panoramic views of the city of Valdivia, in the wetlands and the sea coast. From here you can see eleven volcanoes, including Mount llaima (3215 m), Osorno Volcano (2652 m) and Mount Cerro Tronador (3554 m), which is on the border of Chile and Argentina.

Walking guides on routes carried out in the framework of environmental education of tourists. The park has a specially designed trail, on which you can walk to the coast in Pichikuin in the sector without vehicle access, where you can still get there only by sea. At this point, the connection of the ocean and pristine forests, which remained intact for thousands of years, on the shore you can watch the dolphins and blue whales during the migration, and you can see penguins, otters and cormorants that nest on the coastal slopes.

The park is owned by the company "Forestal Valdivia" and "Celulosa Arauco y Constitución", and is open to visitors all year round.
