Medieval Palace Gotstsoburg is located in Krems, an area Hoer Markt, in the north of the country in the state of Lower Austria.

Gotstsoburg considered one of the most interesting medieval palaces in Austria. The palace in the style of an Italian palazzo, which is rarely seen in Austria. Its history begins in the 13th century, and is still not fully understood. There are many riddles that experts are discussing intensively.

The road leads to a magnificent palace in the heart of the historic old town of Krems on the Danube, which in the Middle Ages was a large shopping center. Early Gothic building consists of east and west wings, which are connected together.

After purchasing the house in the late forties of the 13th century, the judge Gozzi began to build the palace in three stages. Gozzi background Krems was not only one of the most prominent citizens of the city, he also was the highest official in a sovereign Chamberlain (Kammergraf) and a district judge. In 1267, he donated money to the chapel of St. John to the east path, traces of which can still be seen today. The first written mention of the name of the palace took place in 1258 and 1267 marked the opening of the chapel of St. Catherine.

In 1320, the castle was part of the possessions of the Habsburgs, and in the 15th century often pawned because of debts. In 1477, during the siege of the castle was destroyed and rebuilt v1484-1487 years. The most significant changes in the architecture of the palace took place in the 16th century with the addition of an arcade and installation of spiral staircases.

From 1958 to 1964 it carried out large-scale reconstruction of the building. Overhaul was completed in the summer of 2007, and September 21 in the palace was opened to visitors. During the interior work were found numerous frescoes. Since 2007, work is underway in the chapel of St. Catherine.
