Historical Museum in the town of Velingrad was founded in 1952, it is located in Kamenica, that not far from the church of the Holy Trinity. Three major museum exhibitions are: exhibition "Painted Easter eggs" ethnographic exhibition "Hospitable Mountain" and a memorial exhibition devoted to Vela Peeva.

The museum contains the largest city in the Balkans collections of painted Easter eggs. The collection reflects the characteristic of the Chepino region tradition to decorate the eggs with wax and a pen. In addition to the areas of Velingrad, colored eggs are presented here not only from Bulgaria, but also in Eastern and Central Europe. On the eve of Easter each year the museum organizes special exhibitions with demonstrations of traditional art of decorating eggs with wax, where you can also see the artists at work.

"Vela Peeva" - special exhibition tells the story of a Bulgarian partisan who died in 1944 as a member soprotivlencheskogo movement against the current government and the pro-German policy of Bulgaria during the war. The exposition attention is paid to how events preceded the military action, and follow them. The very name of the newly formed in 1948 Velingrad was the name of partisan Vela.

Ethnographic collection "Hospitable Mountain" - a costume that belonged to religious communities - Muslims, Christians, aromanians that inhabit Chepinska edge.

In addition, the museum features exhibits that strengthen the glory of the city as a mineral spa. The stone inscriptions and photographs demonstrate the ancient Bulgarian Mineral Baths, built in the middle of the XVIII century, and is still in effect.

The latest exhibition of the city museum was the exposition devoted Nicholas Gyaurov - opera singer, was born in Velingrad. After the death of the legendary bass family had deposited in the Museum of personal belongings, photographs and documents of the performer. Here you can see costumes from productions with his participation, and gramophone records of the singer. This exhibition has become a traveling - due to the increased interest in the culture of Bulgaria and Gyaurov, in particular, the exhibition appears often in museums in Bulgaria and other countries.
