Frankenturm Tower - one of the three surviving homes in Trier-fortresses, representing a residential building with a special defensive functions. Despite the fact that the tower was built in the 11th century, several centuries after the fall of the Roman rule, in its appearance, the materials used and the method of masonry is clearly visible Roman traditional style.

Tower Frankenturm is a rectangular structure with alternating brick and stone masonry. Like the other houses, the fortresses of Trier, the entrance to the tower was on the second floor, to get to him could only addl wooden stairs. In case of danger, the staircase and climbed the tower became unassailable. The researchers proved the existence of at least seven such defensive residential buildings in medieval Trier.

The name of the house was in the 14th century in honor of its owner Frank von Senhayma. Then, in 1308 first of a five-storey tower was partially dismantled, there are only 2, 5 floor under the flat roof. Some time in the house lived the officials Trier episcopate. In 1938 the building was reconstructed, in particular, added to the battlements on the roof.
