Trier City Museum is housed in a former convent of St. Simeon, to the left of the Porta Nigra gate. The basis of its extensive permanent exhibition made private collections, donated by famous residents. Creating a municipal museum began in 1830 with a collection of paintings, sculptures, porcelain and ceramics, donated by the city P. Hermes. In subsequent years, the museum fund expanding collection of weapons, objects, works of art of the city's residents.

On an area of ​​1000 sq exhibits that reflect the life, economy, culture and religion of Trier from the early Middle Ages to the present. Among the most interesting items - the layout of the city, showing its appearance in 1800, and one of the original medieval character Trier - a stone cross, a 10th century standing in the market square.

The collection of Coptic textiles from 3 to 9 centuries. (about 300 pieces), and lighting fixtures from ancient times to the 20th century, a collection of paintings of the Renaissance, and much more. An interesting exhibit of the museum was the golden cup from which, according to urban legend, in 1804 Napoleon drank local wine.

The last major renovation and significant expansion of the exhibition area of ​​the museum of the city of Trier in the monastery of St. Simeon took place in the late 20 - early 21 th century. The modern presentation of the collection was supplemented with interactive zones multimedia presentations, models and audio guides in different languages. In addition to the permanent exhibition at the museum hosts a variety of exhibitions: Art and themed on the history of the city.
