On Palace Square in the south of Toledo is an old building of the Archbishop's Palace. The palace is located near Alcala Cathedral.

In the 13th century, King Alfonso VIII of presented Archbishop Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada a few houses, is located opposite the cathedral Alcala. Gradually the buildings were completed, modify, and then here came the palace became the residence of the archbishops of Toledo.

Archbishop's Palace in Toledo played an important role in the history of both the city and the whole country. In the initial stages of building the palace was conceived as a citadel. Today this fact demonstrates preserved Tenorio Tower, located in the eastern part of the palace. For a long time within the walls of the palace held the meeting of the Cortes and military advice. Here, too, there was a historic meeting of Isabella of Castile and the most famous Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus.

Throughout its long history, the building of the palace was restored several times, so that its appearance is a complex mixture of several architectural styles. The building is constructed mostly of stone and brick. The main facade was created under the direction of Alonso de Covarrubias in the 16th century. The main entrance is located between two pairs of columns made of granite in the form of a large arch. Entablature decorated with female figures, bearing the coat of arms of Cardinal Tavera.

In the late 19th century, the eastern facade of the building was renovated in neo-gothic style and neomudehar by architect Don Manuel Laredo. Currently, the building is also undergoing restoration.
