Krevo castle was built by Duke Gediminas in XIII-XIV centuries. This fortification was built to protect it from attacks by the Crusaders, who were harassing the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The fortress was built of stone and brick. It was an irregular quadrangle massive high walls with towers at the corners and in the middle of a pond. The walls are further protected deep moats filled with water.

Most princely tower in the southern corner reached 25 meters and had three levels. The tower was not only the fortification, but also used for housing. On the second floor were the prince's chambers, the windows of which were taller and wider than the other, and the walls were decorated with frescoes. The second tower was erected over the gates, which led the way to the north. Now, this tower is almost completely destroyed.

The height of the walls reached 13 meters. Inside, at the level of 10 meters, the towers were connected gallery serving for defense walls. There were in the castle and dungeons, and in them, as usual, torture dungeons and prison dungeons.

In the XVI century castle was handy Grand Duchy of Lithuania repeatedly withstanding the siege of Moscow, and the Mongol troops. The construction of the castle was so successful that it is considered completely inaccessible.

Unfortunately, that could not make the terrible forces make time. In the XIX century the castle considered obsolete and abandoned. Finally it was destroyed during the First World War. Although during his stay on the territory of Belarus Poles, tried to reconstruct the ancient ruins, or at least preserve, alas, the castle continued to deteriorate. Now you can see just what was once a formidable stronghold, terrifies the enemy troops.
