Not far from the village of Aliki, about 25 kilometers south of Limenas is working female monastery of the Archangel Michael - the biggest and most famous temple of the Greek island of Thassos, built in honor of his patron.

It is believed that the monastery was founded by Luke monk in 830, though the exact date is not known. The first official written sources that mention the monastery date back to the late 13th century.
