Eight kilometers from the town of Sortavala, close to the harbor Yuhtinlahti located cottage Dr. Winter. It is situated on the shores of Cape Taruniemi that in Finnish means "fabulous cape." Dr. Winter was fond of landscape art and his initiative was founded city park. But near his home Winter gave a unique arboretum. There were planted many rare species of shrubs, trees, brought from America and China, Japan and the Caucasus. There are growing cedar, fir, arborvitae - a total of 22 different species of coniferous trees and shrubs as well - different types of honeysuckle, acacia, barberry and others.
This garden is a single special world. Here you can admire the central flower bed with a sundial, and then go on diverging paths or "green" theater or Italian gazebo, which are located near a small pond with a hanging bridge, and perhaps to the "alley of desires", lined with pine trees.
This house is very fond of attending the Roerich family in the years 1916-1919. This reminds SN Roerich portrait with an inscription.
After the death of Gustav Winter in 1924, the estate changed several owners. It was and sanatorium, and a club of young seamen, and the recreation of the FSB. Since 1993, the cultural center of the fireplace room "Balaam" was opened an exhibition dedicated to the Roerich family. Since 2000, thanks to philanthropist-businessman MA Kogan in the estate were started restoration work. Now it is an architectural monument of regional significance, there is a tourist park-hotel "Villa Winter".
In the halls of the manor arranged exhibition, exhibitions, which tell about the historical past of these places, about famous people, life is connected with this edge. The stands are located photographs, household items found during the restoration work, samples of unique plants of the park. There is a separate exhibition of stones.
