Basarbovo Monastery in honor of St. Dmitry Basarbovski located near the eponymous village in the valley of the river Rusenski Lom, the nearest town of Ruse - 10 kilometers from the monastery. It is the only active monastic complex carved into the rock, which operates in Bulgaria so far.

Rock Monastery was founded in the era of the Second Bulgarian kingdom, first mentioned in 1431 in the tax register of the Ottoman Empire.

After the liberation of Bulgaria, the monastery during the XIX century, was empty, but since 1937 there lived Hrisant father, who came here from the Transfiguration Monastery. It has given new life to the ancient religious center.

St. Dmitry Basarbovski, born at the end of the XVII century in the nearby village Basarbovo a lifetime spent in the rock churches. His remains were buried in the village church, but due to the Russian-Turkish war, his relics were transferred to the Church of St.. Constantine and Helen in Bucharest. There they are stored today.

The monastery trail leads through the green yard, where it is still preserved well, which dug the St. Demetrius. Local people have a belief that the well water has medicinal properties.

At the foot of the monastery is located the cave-dining room and two utility rooms that were excavated in 1956. 48 steps lead to the rock with a niche site where, according to legend, St. asleep. Dmitry. A right of the niche - the church with a carved iconostasis, made in 1941. There is an icon on which the saint is depicted full-length.

Another stone staircase leads to a natural cave where the monk's burial Hrisanta - the same monk who in 1937 revived the monastery. This cave is the ossuary, is undeveloped and a museum exposition.

October 26, the day of St. Demetrios, here celebrated temple festival. In the monastery visitors can purchase a variety of icons and information materials. Possibilities for accommodation is not provided.
