Castel Sismondo, located in Rimini, once belonged to a powerful ruler of the city Sigismund Pandolfo Malatesta. Its construction began in March 1437 of the year. According to historical chronicles, Malatesta himself designed the castle, although it took part and some real architects, for example, the famous Filippo Brunelleschi. Initially Castel Sismondo surrounded by a moat with a ravelin at the main entrance, where you could see the heraldic symbol of the Malatesta family and the Gothic inscription «Sigismondo Pandolfo». Once each of the square tower was equipped with a bronze cannon.
The central part of the Castel Sismondo, which consisted of several buildings, served as the residence of the Malatesta. The most beautiful living rooms are decorated with tapestries, frescoes and curtains. Probably had decorated the walls of the residence and external - it says the following majolica, have survived.
