A small Orthodox church of Ayios Elias (St. Elijah), located in Protaras, was built in honor of the prophet Elijah in the XIV century. It is located on a cliff near the sea. By the church is a narrow and steep stairs. Moreover, the locals believe that if, during the ascent and descent stage to consider it and not to lose count, so the number matches the result, it will mean the remission of all sins.

Church of Ayios Elias made in the traditional Byzantine style and is famous primarily for its beautiful old painting that is very well preserved to this day. These figures mainly depict scenes from the Bible, as well as Orthodox saints. In general, within the church it looks quite modest, but comfortable - it has a simple wooden altar, the walls are not covered with paintings, painted white. The roof of the temple is topped with traditional Byzantine-style dome and a high cross, and there is also a small bell tower.

But in the evening and at night this structure may seem a palace because of the beautiful lighting which literally transforms Agios Elias.

Near the temple, which is very popular in Cyprus, it is a tree of desires - that dream came true, to a branch it is necessary to tie a ribbon or scarf. And often the tourists for this purpose, even cut off a piece of his clothing.

Despite his rather advanced age, the church of Agios Elias is in excellent condition. In the temple a few times carried out restoration work, which made it possible to preserve all the beauty of this ancient building.

In addition, from the top of the cliff where is Agios Elias, offers stunning views of the surrounding area.
