Geological and hydrological natural monument of regional significance "Red Lake", located near the village of Krasnozernoe Leningrad Oblast, was organized in 1976. State control is carried out by the Government of the Leningrad region, submitted by the Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Leningrad region.

In order to get to the monument need to take the train from St. Petersburg to Zelenogorsk, then - on the bus to the village or the village Bright Korobitsino.

The area is 1650 hectares, of which the lake area - 750 hectares. This area is declared a natural monument in order to preserve the lake, in sediments which accumulate iron and manganese, the relic of the basin, which is dedicated to the ancient tectonic concave (depression) in the crystalline basement and rare species of animals and plants.

Not far from the territory of the "Red Lake" is a ski resort that is a great prospect for the development of tourist and sports infrastructure.

Red Lake belongs to the basin of the river Vuoksi, which runs 24 watercourse of which the central is the river Wanderer, and follows only one river - Red. Lake basin stretches from the northwest to the southeast. The lake is 6, 9 kilometers, average width - 1, 3 kilometers and a maximum depth of -14, 6 meters. The catchment area equals 168 square kilometers. Runoff in the incoming water balance of the lake reservoir is 86, 9%.

Red Lake is a classic example of the lakes in the sediments which are concentrated deposits of manganese and iron. Most of manganese enters the body of water in the prevailing degree water of rivers and streams in the colloidal and dissolved states. The main part of the manganese is thrown out of the Red Lake River.

The coastal region is partially overgrown with reeds, rushes, horsetail, pondweed, bulrush, egg capsules. The lake is characterized by a tendency to decrease in flow, and eutrophication. Eutrophication - this is one of the manifestations of human impact, which is the deterioration of water quality, disturbance of the oxygen regime, disappearance of valuable fish species, the deterioration of the conditions of recreation, etc. Lakeside partially covered by forests, dominated by different types of pine forests, coniferous-small-leaved forests and spruce. They are partly occupied by human settlements and agricultural land. Reeds occupy large areas along the banks of the pond.

Red Lake is rich in fish, which is represented by pike, bream, burbot, whitefish, sculpin, sculpin, minnows, smelt. Through a complex of rivers and streams flowing into the lake fall brook trout and lamprey. A very interesting part of the benthos are various kinds of bivalves. The lake is inhabited glacial relict crustaceans: pontoporeya, mysid, pallaseya.

Specially protected objects of the geological and hydrological natural monument "Red Lake" are sediment of iron and manganese, the coastal zone of the reservoir, the rare animal and plant species: trout, lamprey, relict crustaceans, sedge Omsk, cross the meadow, BOAT trehnadrezny.

On the territory of the natural monument is not allowed to carry out all types of construction, land reclamation and mining operations, leading to a change in the hydrological regime, banned exploration activities, mining, construction of all types of communications, wastewater discharges, cluttering territory.
