Volgograd metrotramvay is acting attraction Volgograd, unique in its kind. The problem of transportation within the city, which has a greater length along the Volga river, appeared and demanded solutions at all times. For example, in 1913 the then Tsaritsyn became the first county town among several provincial, where the tram lines built and put into operation this type of transport.
With the growing population of the city passenger transport problem became acute. It could solve the construction of the subway, but did not have the necessary Volgograd million population, so in the early 70-ies of the last century, the local authorities had the idea of a compromise between the metro and tram. In 1976 the government decided to build a high-speed tram in Volgograd, part of the route which would pass under the ground, like the subway. Construction began in the same year. Moreover, aware of the future growth of the city's population, with the construction of tunnels provided for the possibility in the future to replace the trams full-fledged subway car with a minimum of rework.
The construction of the first phase took eight years, and in November 1984 held a ceremonial launch of high-speed tram. A second stage of construction continued. In just a few years of successful operation of this idea was picked up Ukrainian builders in Krivoy Rog. More such projects no one realized, in this respect, Volgograd metrotramvay unique, it has become a tourist business card of Volgograd. In late 2011, we opened a second line originally decided lack of trams technical problem with the bilateral arrangement of doors.
