Czech archaeologists claim that the Prague began with Visegrad. This hill, according to legend, had seen so many illustrious personalities from Kroc, the son of the progenitor of all the Czech people, and ending with the famous cultural figures who have found solace in the local cemetery. In fact, it's not a cemetery and memorial, which is recognized as a national monument of the Czech state. In terms of importance Cmetery can be compared to the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
It is located next to the majestic Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and a small plot of land fenced. Entrance to the cemetery is free.
Visegrad never crowded place, and only the cemetery and even more so. It is rare to find tourists, armed with cameras, camcorders. But those who know this place, do not fail to visit the grave sites of Jan Neruda, Smetana, Karel Capek, Bozena Nemcova and other equally famous writers, composers, politicians. For better orientation among the graves of the cemetery the whole territory is divided into 15 sectors, but the inspection of all gravestones will not take long, so do not try to discover the graves of famous people and just go along the paths of the cemetery, marking the original tomb sculpture. By the way, on many of them work of the famous sculptor.
The eastern side of the cemetery occupies a sculpture-mausoleum "Slavin". Angel in long robes, leaning over the sarcophagus, guarding the dream illustrious sons of the fatherland.
