At Prague Castle, the deer moat in front of the Kralevski conceals is an impressive horse arena, which was built by Emperor Leopold I in the place of an old building, which served the same purpose. For the construction of a new arena was invited by Jean-Baptiste-mate, who developed the project in the Baroque style, which came to taste the emperor. Construction of the building began in 1694. For room size 92h40 meters were attached courtyard that housed the well-equipped stables, and a pavilion for the content of pheasants. They were built almost a hundred years earlier as directed by Rudolf II.
In 1760, the arena was damaged by fire, so I had to repair it. During the restoration work has been completely replaced roof. That's it, we can see today on the building in front of the Prague Castle. By the way, the facade has not changed much since then. It is still decorated with stucco reliefs, among which there is only the emblem of the Third Reich, which is not surprising. If we consider the details of the facade decor, you can see the image of running horses, antique weapons, hunting scenes.
Manege long been used for its intended purpose - about a century. Then it was turned into a warehouse. After World War II there was an idea to make the arena exhibition hall, and maybe something else. In order to make the building lighter, smaller windows replaced with large openings through which light easily penetrates into the interior. Unfortunately, paintings and objects exhibited in the arena, it was not very good. To improve the technical quality of the arena tried again in 2006-2007. Currently riding rented the National Gallery, where she conducts various exhibitions.
