Historical Museum in the town of Pleven is located in a two-story building, built in 1888 for the needs of the army. The total area of ​​the museum complex is about 7000 square meters. meters. On the territory of the nearby Park posted an open exposure. The main fund of the museum houses more than 180 thousand exhibits. The specialized library in the complex has 10 thousand volumes of scientific literature and periodicals.

Regional History Museum was founded in 1903 thanks to the local archaeological community, whose members assembled his own collection of items found in the excavations in the fortress Strogoziya. In 1923, the collection was presented at an exhibition in the center of the community center, "Consent", and in 1953 the museum acquired the status of an independent scientific and cultural institutions. In 1984 he moved to the old building, which is today.

The aim of the History Museum is to collect, study, preservation of cultural monuments, samples of flora and fauna of the area of ​​Pleven and Lovech. The region has been found important archaeological sites such as the Roman city of Ulpia Eskus (c. I-IV century.), Early Byzantine fortress Strogoziya (IV-VI cc.), The medieval Bulgarian fortress in Nikopol.

The structure of the museum includes the following sections: "Archaeology", "History of Bulgaria XV-XIX centuries.", "Modern and Contemporary History", "Ethnography", "Nature" and others.
