In 1763, the city of Ostrava little resemblance to today's big metropolis. Then it was quiet, peaceful town in which located several blocks from the craft shops, a couple of churches and the central market square. And in this small village there was a huge fire destroyed nearly half the city. The fire was tamed, and in honor of this event, and in gratitude to Heaven for the miraculous salvation of many lives in the town square, it was decided to put the statue dedicated to St. Florian - patron saint of firefighters, as well as workers who are in some way related to the fire, eg bakers , glassblowers, chimney sweeps.
The sculpture of St. Florian created in the baroque style and solemnly installed in front of the town hall. She did not change her position for almost 300 years, when the Communists came to power in the Czech Republic, for some reason decided that such a monument is not a place in the main square of Ostrava. They removed the statue of St. Florian, replacing it with a tasteless monument made by some policemen. The statue was sent to some sort of workshop, where it was kept for more than 20 years. In 1983, it installed in a remote area called Ostrava Hrabůvka. Fortunately, many citizens are aware of where it is a favorite spot statue. Therefore, in 2008 it was returned to the usual place - on Masaryk Square, where we can see it now.
A little earlier the statue of St. Florian's Square Masaryk got cleaned in the 1960s, Marian column and cast-iron fountain.
