The memorial complex "Khatyn" - a silent monument to Nazi atrocities during World War II.

The village of Khatyn was completely burned March 22, 1943. Were burned alive all the villagers. Those who tried to escape from the fire, machine-gun bullets waited standing in the cordon of soldiers. They managed to survive only three: two boys and one elderly man.

In 1966, it was decided to commemorate the tragedy of Katyn and build on the site of the burned village memorial. The Central Committee of the PBC decided to establish in Logoisk district of the memorial complex "Khatyn". He was an All-Union competition of projects of the memorial complex. In March 1967 we won the competition young contemporary architects Yu Grad, B. Zankovich, L. Levin and sculptor, People's Artist of the Byelorussian SSR S. Selikhanov.

The memorial complex "Khatyn" was inaugurated on July 5, 1969.

Amazing sculpture unconquered inhabitant of Khatyn, carrying in her arms a dying son. The monument depicts the miracle survivor smith Joseph Kaminsky, who under piles of corpses found his wounded son.

The special emotional expressiveness achieved bell ringing, which is distributed every 30 seconds. Ringing spreads far over the silent green hills, keeping the ashes of Khatyn. About burned houses resemble monuments in the form of chimneys.

It created the world's only cemetery villages. It perpetuates all that remained of the burned villages - their name and the urn with the ashes brought from the scene of the tragedy. On the symbolic tree branches listed in alphabetical order of 433 Belarusian villages burnt down during the war.
