Grasse Cathedral Grasse Cathedral has very modest in appearance, but inside keeps real treasures - paintings of great masters Louis Brea, Peter Paul Rubens, Jean-Honore Fragonard.

Brush the first of them belongs to a triptych depicting saints Lambert and Onorato and Pope Clement. This work is done in 1524. Rubens, before you end up in this cathedral, come a long way - from the Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome, for which they were written. Then the painting as a donation to the hospital were moved to Grasse in 1827, and after they were placed in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame-du-Puy. The names of the paintings - "The Crowning with Thorns", "Saint Helena" and "Exaltation of the Cross." Work Fragonard is called the "washing of the feet", and was written in 1754.

In addition to these cultural values ​​are stored in the temple of the crucifix, which was previously installed in front of the cathedral, and the body, which in the middle of the XIX century replaced the ancient instrument of the first half of the XIV century. Here the relics of St. Onorato Arles transferred to the temple at the end of the XVIII century. Holy Onorato lived in the IV-V century and was bishop of Arles. He was buried in the chapel of St. Genesta Arles, in the XIV century and then transferred power to the abbey on Lérins Islands and then in Grasse.

The cathedral itself was built in the XII century, the first written mention of it date back to 1154 year. For its construction was used a white stone from the small mountain village of La Turbie and the method used Lombard masonry.

After five centuries, the cathedral has undergone significant reorganization, and at the beginning of the XVIII century during the restoration work at the cathedral crypt was discovered with multiple burials. During the Great French Revolution, as a repository for grain, the cathedral burned down in part and only after that he returned to the Church.
