The actual year of foundation of the city museum of Herceg Novi - 1949. Since 1953, the museum is located in a building that was bequeathed an honorary citizen of the city, a prominent public figure in Montenegro - Mirko Komnenovichem. The exterior has a style of late baroque of the XVIII century.

The museum's collection contains four different exhibitions: historical, ethnographic, archaeological and collection of icons. The museum's exhibits include rare archaeological finds, such as amphorae, coins, documents, weapons, bas-reliefs, musical instruments, and agricultural implements. In addition, the museum is widely presented national decorations and costumes.

Local History Museum complex also includes a park. At its core, it is a botanical garden small size, the total area of ​​which does not exceed 1,000 sq.m. In the park you can see a collection of carefully selected sub-tropical Mediterranean plants. From wild plants grow in the park different kinds of palm trees, cacti, agaves, aloes, magnolias, camellias, shrubs and conifers. In addition, the park has a plantation of medicinal and aromatic herbs typical of the Mediterranean climate.

It also held "Mimosa Festival" - an annual celebration that Herceg Novi is famous not only for the whole of Montenegro, but also Europe. It is a plant widespread in the park at the museum. The timing of the festival - one month from the end of February to early March.
