One of the main attractions of Volos is considered a center of folk art Kitsosa Makris. The building where the museum is located, and most unique collection presented it previously belonged to the famous Greek historian and ethnographer Kitsosu Makris.

The two-story building area of ​​180 sq.m. It was built in 1955 by architect Fillipidisa Agirisa and respects the traditional style of the region. In 1988, after the death of Kitsosa Makris, following his will, relatives and the house passed the collection as a gift to the University of Thessaly on the condition that there will be organized by the Ethnographic Museum and Research Center.

The museum exhibition includes housewares, various tools, ceramics, jewelry, fragments of wall paintings, paintings, prints, icons (including the post-Byzantine) and other church relics, clothing, embroidery, furniture, musical instruments and much more. Most of the artifacts collected from all over the Pelion peninsula, and mostly dates back to the 18-19 th centuries. Among the most valuable and interesting exhibits is to provide the artist Theofilos Hadzimihaila, magnificent frescoes and works of Athanasios Pagonis Nikolos Hristopulusa. There are also works of contemporary Greek artists like Theologos, Geskos and Malamos.

The Folk Art Center has a great library, which holds about 4,000 rare books, important historical documents, 2500 slide and 4000 pictures, perfectly illustrating the development of the culture and traditions of Pelion.

Folk Art Center Kitsosa Makris is considered one of the best museums of its kind, and the exhibition presented at the Museum - one of the most important and interesting collections of folk art in Greece.
