Watch Tower, 83 meters high, was built in the XIII century. It serves as a symbol of the aspirations of the citizens of medieval towns to freedom.

Here are 49 bells, creating Carillon - sonorous bells chime. The most important - victory bell - cast in 1680 and weighs about 6000 kg and diameter up to two meters. Currently, the tower of the old certificates are stored on the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens.

Watch Tower acted as the main vantage point, from a height which could observe the enemy from afar. Through the main entrance you enter into the courtyard of a rectangular shape, where the stairs you can climb the stairs to the gallery. On the ground floor of the building houses the Museum of Archaeology, containing historical relics and works of art.

In the niche above the entrance is a statue of the Virgin Mary, under which there is a small balcony with an iron railing. Hence, in 1769 we proclaimed to all laws and regulations relating to citizens' life.

At different times and periods of history Belfort was subjected to ill-treatment, as evidenced by the numerous scars on its walls. But despite this, the Watch Tower succumbed to the present day and is an important historical and architectural part of Bruges.
