Freedom Square is one of the most central and spacious squares of the old district of Brno. It was founded in the XIII century before was called Lower Market. On the perimeter they built their palaces and mansions of the most respected citizens of Brno. Unfortunately, none of those buildings has been preserved to this day in its original form. All of them were subjected to renovations, during which the updated facades, and completely change the look. Some of them are united in one complex, while others were destroyed. The fate befell the last and the old cathedral of St. Nicholas, who in 1870 decorated the square and took the congregation. Now, instead of the majestic temple you can see a tram stop. At the site of the destroyed temple during repairs discovered several tombs and underground labyrinth. Tourists can see where there was a cathedral, guided by its outline on the pavement.

The area is decorated with plague column, which is usually erected in gratitude to the heavenly patron of protection against the plague. However, it is this sculpture is dedicated to the victory over the Swedes.

Liberty Square - a place in the old town, where life abounds.
