Church of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary was built in the Gothic style at the beginning of the XVI century and still survives virtually intact. This is a very strange and unusual, considering that the entire city bridge was completely destroyed and rebuilt on a new site.

In 1965, it was this ancient temple was chosen among other attractions of the city as a symbol of the former settlement, which must be preserved for posterity. At the same time sparked heated debates about what to do: dismantle stone by stone church and collect it at the new location, move to a new city only the most valuable elements of the interior, and the building itself is built of modern materials, or to move the church, without distinction. He won the last option. And in 1975, the building, which weighs 12 tons, was placed on a platform, which is placed on a specially created for this rail, and at a rate of 1-3 cm per minute it moved almost a kilometer. Since then, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the heaviest object ever moved by mankind.

As soon as the transport of the temple took place, work began on its reconstruction. The church received a new roof and updated the bell tower that was dismantled even before moving, so how to keep it there was no possibility.

Restorers have worked for several years. As a result, in 1988 the church was re-opened for parishioners. Its interior is characterized by simplicity and humility. Special decorations affecting the eye, you will not see here, although many sculptures placed in the temple, dated to the XVIII century.
