Palazzo Pfanner was built in the second half of the 17th century and belonged to the family Moriconi, members of the merchant nobility of Lucca. After the bankruptcy of the family, the palace was sold to another noble merchants contronym who trade silk. Contronym expanded the building to attach to it a monumental staircase, supposedly designed by a local architect Domenico Martinelli. In the early 18th century they also commissioned Filippo Juvarra to do device garden behind the palace, and to paint the arches and stairs of the Palazzo were invited by local artists. It was in this building took contronym Danish Prince Frederick during his big trip to Italy.

Around the middle of the 19th century it became the owners of an ancient palace Pfanner family - namely Felix Pfanner, an Austrian brewer, purchased the Palace after the founding of the first in Lucca and one of the first breweries in Italy. The brewery is located in a nice building between the garden and the rooms of the Palazzo, it was closed in 1929.

Palazzo is still owned by the family Pfanner, which in the late 20th century, carried out reconstruction of the building and opened it to the public. Thanks to its charming architecture, the Palazzo several times becomes a place of filming, including filmed here several scenes of the film "Portrait of a Lady," with Nicole Kidman and John Malkovich in the lead roles.

Baroque garden of Palazzo Pfanner also attracts many visitors with its lawns, colorful flowers, trees and lemons in a clay pot, standing along the row of statues depicting Greek Olympians and seasons. At the intersection of two main paths of the garden set octagonal fountain, and elegant Limonar two lions and basilisks on the roof - the emblem of the family contronym - decorates the part of the garden where the growing boxwood, laurel, two ancient bamboo, yews, pines, magnolias and roses.

Tourists can explore only a small part of the Palazzo Pfanner, where the huge reception hall, decorated with frescoes of the 18th century, and several side rooms with items of antique furniture and a wooden statue of the Archangel Michael 14th century.

The Palazzo an exhibition of ancient surgical instruments and medical treatises, collected by Pietro Pfanner, a surgeon, philanthropist and mayor of Lucca from 1920 to 1922.
