The Catholic Church of St. Martin is located in the heart of Bamberg, close to the Old Town Hall. Each tourist can visit here if you come to the island, located between the two arms of the beautiful river Regnitz. This temple fascinates with its appearance and does not leave anyone indifferent visitor.
Church of St. Martin made in the Baroque style, it was built thanks to the efforts of representatives of the Jesuits at the end of the XVII century. For a sample was taken the temple Il Gesu, located in Rome. The architects of this amazing structure made Georg Leonhard Dientzenhofer, they are carefully supervised all construction work that stretched for as much as 7 years. Upon completion of construction in 1693, the church was consecrated in the name of Jesus Christ, and three years later it was decorated with an attached new bell tower.
The interior of the temple can be seen today, and keep a job talented Flemish painter Oswald Ungers. Images of saints like Francis Xavier and Ignatius of Loyola admire their uniqueness and beauty. Of particular note is the dome of the church, where you can see the work of Giovanni Francesco Marchini. Looking at the facade, it is impossible not to notice the marvelous figure of the Virgin and Jesus Christ, as well as some of the saints.
During the secularization of the country in 1806 the church became a parish and was later consecrated in the name of St. Martin. This amazing man he served in the cavalry, he gave one to the beggar by the roadside stripped his coat. After he left the military service, Martin for several years lived a hermit in the desert called Liguzh. Subsequently, there he was summoned to the Tour, where he was proclaimed bishop. Today the Church of St. Martin is considered the largest arrival of Bamberg.
