Amsterdam's Museum - a museum about the history of the capital city of the Netherlands. Until 2011 it was called - History Museum of Amsterdam.
The museum opened in 1926 and was first in the building of the former city Waag. In 1975 the museum moved to another historic building - a former orphanage at the monastery of St. Lucian. The building of a shelter was built in 1580 by the famous Dutch architect Hendrik de Keyser and his son Peter. The shelter was located in this building until 1960. Hundreds of children left without parents, were able to get here for shelter, care and education. The boys could be taught in urban schools and get some profession, girls were taught housekeeping in a shelter. Now the museum includes an interactive exhibition for children about the life of a shelter in the XVII century.
The museum has numerous exhibits on the life and history of the city, its past, present and future. In 2011, the museum has 70 000 items. Many of the exhibits can touch and try out, conducted interactive tours. In addition to the permanent exhibition the museum also hosts a variety of exhibitions.
Gallery leads to the museum of the City Guard - covered street, which is the art gallery. This is one of the few free streets galleries in the world where you can see the picture painted from 1530 to 2007.
